The reported pilot

Postal trade outlets citing USPS Correspondence 5381 describe an Amazon PM Delivery Pilot. Under the publicly reported process, Amazon packages arrive between noon and 1 p.m., clerks sort them manually, and city carriers deliver them during a reported 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. window.

Why the timing matters

A later package handoff reduces the time available for receiving, sorting, route preparation, and final delivery. The operating challenge is not simply whether a package can move on the same day. The network must also have the people, information, equipment, and route capacity needed to complete the promised window.

What the report does not establish

The pilot should not be described as a nationwide service commitment or proof that every market can support the same schedule. Public reporting does not establish the pilot's final locations, long-term costs, performance results, or whether the model will expand. Those decisions may change as the test progresses.

NDE analysis: start with the cutoff

A business considering time-sensitive delivery should begin with the actual cutoff time, shipment profile, destination list, receiver availability, and required completion window. A later cutoff can be valuable, but it leaves less room to correct incomplete addresses, missing references, or receiver problems. NDE must confirm service availability and timing directly for each requested operation.
